On Monday we went to the village called Kayapas.  This is Gabriel's home village where his mother and sisters live.  This is a larger village than our previous days.  We were able to treat over 200 people throughout the day.

Dr. Dietrich with Simon who was his translator. We aren't entirely sure what Simon's medical training is but he must be the equivalent of a Physician Assistant in the US.  He treats patients at a local health center.

Our nurses with the nurses from the local health center.

Dr. Dietrich greeting the "Mayor".
We have dubbed this little guy the "Mayor" because he stayed by us last year and led us through the village.  This year he came right up under the tent and stood in the middle of everything like he was supervising.  Always a serious face but a leader in the making.

They try to keep us under the tent because we burn really quick in the sun.

This little girl breaks my heart...she's so tiny but her belly is so big she looks pregnant.

Some of the ladies in these villages have these tribal markings on their faces.  I'm not entirely sure what it signifies but it looks like it was probably painful to have done.

After clinic we were asked to help distribute some of the items.  We don't typically like to do it ourselves because people can get grabby and snatchy.  So we did some and then left it to the leaders to distribute the rest.

The pile of goodies.  Mosquito nets, flip flops, tire sandals, underwear, pillowcase dresses, and some clothes.

Mattress and jerry can recipient.  Jerry cans are used to carry water from the well to the home.

Pillowcase dresses made by Rebecca's mom and her friends.

Becky's nephew, Dominic, donated his school shirts from last year.

The "road" back to town.

While the ladies and Dr. Maceluch rode back to the Pallace Inn in our Land Cruiser Dr. Dietrich and Don along with Henry, Gabriel and Pastor Philip WALKED back....they love it!

The videos are short clips.  Henry was taking the videos and trying to keep up.  But, I think it's interesting to see how the trail is so small and the grass so tall.  Two years ago there was no grass because it hadn't rained in years.  And as they make the long trek back to the hotel you can see the trail turns into a road.

After a little rest we walked over to the Catholic church to visit the priest (and we happen to know they have a cold refrigerator with COLD beverages).  Father John Bosco is Ugandan and went to Kenya for his seminary training.  He is a newly ordained priest and Karamoja is his first assignment.  He was so kind and graciously offered us a nice cold beverage.  It was so good!
