Ok, so back to the trip...
Early on Saturday morning Gabriel and the team flew to Matany, Karamoja with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). The pilots of MAF are all missionaries and fly people throughout the country and to surrounding countries as well as medical evacuations, etc.
Sunrise over the airstrip (Again don't mind the date on the picture)
Walkway down to the airplane.
The team in front of our plane. It's a 13 passenger plane.
Ready for take off!
Dr. Maceluch is also a pilot so he got the front seat. On the left is Achem, our MAF pilot.
Aerial view of a village in the Karamoja region.
It has been raining a lot in Karamoja so they are able to grow crops and everything was so green.
The welcome committee. Planes don't land in Matany too often so when a plane comes everyone comes running to greet it.
Enjoying sunflower seeds right out of the flower.
Achem doing a little show for us as he flew back to Kampala.
While we were waiting for Henry, Ronnie and the drivers to arrive with all the supplies
Gabriel led us on a walk around Matany.
Sorghum for sale on side of the road. They grind it to make flour.
Corn kernels and sorghum for sale
Where the people of this area gather water. The wells are quite far apart so the people of this area use this water for food, bathing, etc.
We did pass 1 well. It was interesting that there were different lines for the well. They were probably different families or smaller villages and they were taking turns at the pump.
Henry and the crew finally arrived. These were all the things we had to distribute throughout the trip.
Mosquito Nets
Mattresses
Plates, Cups, Bowls
Blankets
Flip Flops and Karamajong sandals
Underwear
Pillowcases dresses and some clothes
Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Sanitary pads for school girls
We had 2 cases full of medicine that we would take to the clinics each day and would replenish each night.
Don and Brandy putting vitamins into smaller bags for easy distribution.
We did a medical clinic in the village named Lokoas today. We had never been to this village before. This is the Welcome song they sang for us as we arrived.
Nurse Brandy triaging patients
Nurse Joelle triaging patients
Dr. Dietrich and Don Lourcey, PA
Dr. Maceluch with his translator, Pastor Elijah, evaluating a patient
Dr. Dietrich with his translator, Pastor Paul, evaluating a patient.
Precious girl holding her bottle of antibiotics.
Don with his translator, Pastor Simon Peter, evaluating a patient.
Brandy with Pastor Philip's wife, Agnes, triaging a patient.
These sandals are made out of old tires. They are great shoes for this area because they are durable.
This woman received a mosquito net and was also seen by a doctor.
This village also needs well
The ladies were singing a song thanking us for the work we had
done and Dr. Maceluch got in on the fun.
Blessings,
Becky
